Belgian Grand Prix: Practice team notes - Ferrari

Scuderia Ferrari HP completed its planned programme across Friday's free practice sessions for the Belgian Grand Prix, using the two hours to gather data on the SF-26's behaviour on the Medium and Soft compounds and to work on both qualifying and race pace. This evening, the engineers, along with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will analyse the data collected to continue their preparation for tomorrow's qualifying session.

In the first session of the weekend, Lewis and Charles started on Medium tyres, completing nine laps each before switching to the Soft compound, on which Lewis posted a best time of 1'47"215 and Charles a 1'47"277. Towards the end of the session, both drivers completed long runs on used tyres, on different compounds - Soft for Hamilton and Medium for Leclerc - covering 22 laps each.

In the second session, the Ferrari drivers once again started work on the Medium tyres, but the session was soon interrupted to allow the circuit to be cleared after another car had run through a gravel trap. Once the session resumed, Lewis and Charles fitted Soft tyres. Hamilton set the fourth-fastest time with a 1'46"691, while Leclerc recorded a 1'47"035 that would have been good enough for seventh place, only for the lap to be deleted for exceeding track limits at Eau Rouge. On his second attempt, with the tyres no longer at their optimum, the Monegasque stopped the clocks in 1'47"468, which put him 11th. The final part of the session, which had been scheduled for long runs, was compromised by a second red flag following Pierre Gasly's accident. The track reopened with just two minutes remaining, allowing the cars to complete only one final lap before the chequered flag. Lewis completed 15 laps and Charles 17, for a total of 32 laps in the session, bringing the team's overall tally for the day to 76 laps.

Lewis Hamilton: We got through a good amount of work today and gathered plenty of useful information across both sessions. The balance of the car is generally good, but there are a few areas where we know we can improve, particularly through the middle sector. Tonight we'll go through all the data with the engineers, refine the set-up and look for those small gains that can make the difference ahead of qualifying.

Charles Leclerc: We did a lot of work over the course of the day, and there is still some room for improvement in terms of our competitiveness. We will fine tune our setup ahead of tomorrow and work on finding some more lap time for qualifying.
