Williams partners with Polish oil refiner

NEWS STORY
29/11/2018

PKN Orlen, a major Polish oil refiner and petrol retailer with significant operations in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Baltic States, prides itself on innovation and technology whilst retaining a strong focus on value creation. The customer-orientated petrochemical business is present in over 90 countries, spread across six continents.

As part of the agreement, PKN Orlen will have branding on the rear wing, nose, intake system and both mirrors of the FW42. In addition, their logo will appear on the drivers' helmets, driver and mechanics overalls and on team kit.

"We are pleased to announce that PKN Orlen will partner Williams for the 2019 season," said Claire Williams. "Williams stands for technology, innovation and top-class engineering, and these synergies with PKN Orlen will help drive our partnership forward."

"Cooperation between PKN Orlen and Williams Martini Racing starts a new era for motorsports in Poland, as well as building the global reach of our brand," added Daniel Obajtel, CEO and President of the Management Board of PKN Orlen. "It is worth remembering that Orlen Group has assets in five countries in Europe and North America today. Our products are available in over 90 countries around the world. This means that we are looking for global communication channels to establish an international position.

"Involvement in Formula One racing is one of the most effective ways to promote our brand through sports sponsorship, and we are delighted to be entering the sport with Williams. With the team having just announced Robert Kubica as a driver for 2019, the only Pole to have participated in Formula One, we want to accompany him on his journey back to the top."

"From where I sit, I am far, far more comfortable with the notion of a pay driver than having betting agencies/apps plastered all over the place. A blight on all sports and society more generally. And what do the Americans do? Enter into a betting deal for F1. Shameful.

"@hussainahm Williams if they were clever would have realised that their 2018 car was a failure early on which is why I believe they took strolls sirotkins and martinis money and put it into the 2019 car early meaning that they didn't need alot of money for 2020 coming from kubica in the form of a 2019 drive.
Of course this will only ring true if Williams don't finish bottom in 2019 and of course I could also be entirely wrong. "

"It didn't take long to realise the real reason they signed Robert.....

It was always going to be about money - Russian or Polish

Hopefully the Poles will behave better in the Williams Motorhome than the Ruskies!!

They've secured the Oil and Petrol now they need to sign up a Vodka supplier"

"@rosscogeo how do you know Sirotkin had more money, just because Russia is richer than Poland? Also how are Williams in a better financial situation when they’re losing Martini and are last in the constructors hence the least prize money?"

"People should know that sirotkin had more money than kubica but Williams chose Robert because their financial situation isn't currently as bad as it was 18 months ago.
Also ALL drivers in F1 are pay drivers in some part even Lewis and Sebastian "

"Talent has many forms, in F1. Now we are seeing the big picture and I am not saying Roberts hasn't the talent to be there, I have to state."
