Aston Martin's Mike Krack insists that the upgrade being introduced this weekend is not "make or break" for the team.

In the build-up to this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, despite no official preview from the Silverstone-based outfit, much has been made of the upgrade, with some sections of the media essentially describing it as a new car, or at very least a B-spec.

However, Krack has played down the significance of the upgrade, which the team has opted to introduce all at once as opposed to race by race.

"You know, when you bring substantial upgrades, it's something that the track team will have to learn as quickly as possible," he said at the Hungaroring today. "We have no winter testing where you can just do some runs, some back to backs and all that, so it puts obviously a lot of emphasis on the quality of your data, on the quality of understanding your simulations.

"We do not expect that we get everything out of it in the first run tomorrow," he admitted, "so I think we need to learn how to manage this and how to get the best out of it.

"We have a good track team," he continued, "we have a good support team, from all that will go through that quickly and we will get the right conclusions quickly, but it will take a bit of time.

"I think the tests that we will have to do, the basic tests, be right ideas, you know, brakes and these kind of things will come over the next years."

Other than hopefully bringing the team closer to the midfield fight, the upgrade is considered vital for the reputation of Adrian Newey and the career of Fernando Alonso, though the Spaniard insists that it is the future of the F1 rules that actually decide whether he remains or walks away.

Despite so much seemingly dependent on the upgrade, Krack insists that it is not make or break.

"No, it will not be a make or break," he said. "I think we are all realistic. We have a plan and we work with that plan. "Success and setbacks are part of sport. I think we have been in a difficult situation or difficult sport before and we try to get out of it, but there are more steps needed.

"This is part of the development strategy," he continued, "so I would not call it a make or break. It is just the development that needs to continue. We will have this recreation for a couple of years coming and it is just one step."
