Pirelli confirms Monaco and Barcelona compounds

NEWS STORY

Pirelli has confirmed the compound for the upcoming race weekends in Monaco and Barcelona.

The Monte Carlo circuit has the lowest average speed of the entire calendar. The race winds its way through the city streets on a very smooth asphalt surface, which results in virtually no tyre degradation.

Overtaking is extremely difficult due to the very narrow track widths, where driver precision is crucial to avoid contact with the barriers.

As in recent years, the softest trio in the range is therefore confirmed: C3 as the hard, C4 as the medium and C5 as the soft.

The selection for the Catalan weekend will be one step softer than last year. In Barcelona the C2 will be used for the hard, the C3 for the medium and the C4 for the soft.

Unlike the previous round on the calendar, the Spanish circuit is very demanding on tyres, both because of its layout, with many fast, long-radius corners, and because of the temperatures, which promote thermal degradation.

With a more consistent range this year, the aim of the selection is therefore to encourage a greater number of pit stops during the race.
