No further action on Grosjean / Sainz clash

Having clashed with his teammate at the start of today's race, Romain Grosjean further blotted his copybook in the final stages when he clashed with Carlos Sainz as they battled for 11th position.

As the Spaniard attempted to go around the outside of the Haas at Copse, the two touched and headed off into the gravel, both out on the spot and bringing out the safety car just minutes after it had been withdrawn following Marcus Ericsson's crash.

Having reviewed the video evidence and spoken to both drivers, the stewards concluded that Sainz had a run on the outside of Grosjean going into the very fast Turn 9 (Copse).

While Sainz did slightly tighten his line towards the apex, both drivers agreed that this was not the entire reason for the incident.

Grosjean explained that he had braked where he would not normally brake, at the entry of the turn to avoid an incident, but as soon as his front wing was in the turbulence from Sainz' Renault he had a slight understeer and as the cars were very close they made contact and subsequently crashed.

The drivers agreed that it was a racing incident and the stewards determined that neither was wholly or predominantly at fault, and took no further action.
