There's a party in the Pitpass studio this week, and much to editor Chris Balfe's disdain it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

He is joined once again by Max Noble and Mat Coch as the trio dissect the latest round of Bernie's Scalextric World Championship, though they've temporarily lost the track invader piece that often makes the racing that little bit more interesting.

Instead they focus on other events, including laying into Lewis Hamilton like a Mexican wrestler. Indeed the three-time world champion, and early favourite already for next year, gets body-slammed by all three of the guys who take turns to brand him unprofessional, childish and, well... Lewis.

Whilst Coch suggests he needs to learn how to lose, or more to the point, understand the fact that he can't win every race, the team agrees the mentoring role Nigel Mansell took on over the weekend was wildly successful for not since the mustachioed maestro ruled the Peraltada has the sport seen whining of such epic proportions.

Speaking of whining, and doing their level best not to talk Red Bull - team boss Dietrich Mateschitz seen here with his drivers before heading off for further 'negotiations' - there is a brief and terse discussion about engines. Balfe having kept himself busy during the week pulling all the price tags off the engines at Brackley, which had what appeared to be telephone number on them, while those at Woking simply said "free to good home".

Coch however, isn't buying the bluff and provides irrefutable evidence that, while the Honda may as well be a Vespa, the McLaren chassis is hardly any better.

Missing this week is Max Noble's now trademark conspiracy theory but at least he gets to talk about Aston Martin, Pirelli and how nobody whined about them other than Lewis.

And of course no podcast this week would be complete without touching on the biggest story of the year; Susie Wolff's retirement from "competitive motorsport". And yes, the guys really do ask that question… you know, the one about at which point she actually started competitive motorsport.

"I like to observations about the use of simulators in F1. Listening to that, I recalled the 1973 documentary about the JPS team 'If You're Not Winning, You're Not Trying". There is a scene in it where Emmo comes into the pits during practice and reports to Colin Chapman that the car is oversteering. Colin scratches head for a moment and says it is a corner weight problem and tells the mechanics adjust the front springs, he thinks a bit longer and changes his mind and says leave that and adjust the rear roll bar.

Oh how I wish it was still like that, no poring over computer screens - just years of experience in setting up a car. Happy days.

The other classic in that film is where Ronnie Peterson is practicing for the Swedish GP and runs out of time so Chapman goes to the marshal at the end of the pit and says "One more lap, he is Swedish" - far simpler times when F1 was a sport."
