World Motor Sport Council decisions

NEWS STORY
10/07/2015

The FIA's World Motor Sport Council has announced its decisions relating to F1 following its meeting in Mexico City.

The meeting was held as part of the FIA Sport Conference 2015, which also included the FIA American Congress, and was organised by the Mexican ASN, the Organizacion Mexicana del Deporte Automovilístico Internacional (OMDAI).

The WMSC has approved the rule adjustments proposed by the F1 Strategy Group and approved by the F1 Commission.

These are:

The simplification of the power unit penalties, ensuring that the most a driver can be penalised is to be demoted to the rear of the grid – this will eliminate penalties during the race for these infractions.

New power unit manufacturers to F1 will receive an extra power unit for each driver to use throughout Grands Prix for the season, bringing the total to five – one more than the existing power unit suppliers. This will be applied retrospectively to Honda.

These changes to the sporting regulations will come into force with immediate effect.

The provisional calendar for the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship was also approved:

Date Race Circuit
03-Apr Australia Melbourne
10-Apr China Shanghai International Circuit
24-Apr Bahrain Sakhir
01-May Russia Sochi
15-May Spain Barcelona
29-May Monaco Monaco
12-Jun Canada Montreal
26-Jun Britain Silverstone
03-Jul Austria Red Bull Ring
17-Jul Europe Baku
31-Jul Germany TBC
07-Aug Hungary Hungaroring
28-Aug Belgium Spa Francorchamps
04-Sep Italy Monza
18-Sep Singapore Marina Bay
25-Sep Malaysia Sepang
09-Oct Japan Suzuka
23-Oct United States Austin
30-Oct Mexico Mexico City
13-Nov Brazil Interlagos
27-Nov Abu Dhabi Yas Marina

The WMSC also approved the update of the Super Licence regulations with a view to:

Increasing flexibility for drivers having qualified for a Super Licence, but do not have the opportunity to race in Formula One. These drivers will now keep this possibility for three years (eg. typical F1 test driver situation)

Enlarging the list of Series included in the Super Licence point system following numerous requests from series for inclusion

Adjusting of points given to some series already included to better reflect the strength of series.

Granting the champion of the FIA Formula E Championship with a Super Licence, although the Championship is not part of the points system.

"Well Joop, the time you came you lucked out, as norolex says, you could have snow --- "

"Montreal in October? In one word "temperature". It can be anything from 23C down to 2C on any day in October. The trees start shedding their leaves and going dormant for a reason. Maybe Pirelli could add a snow tire to the choices. That would definitely work in favour of Kimi and Bottas."

"Actually kdxrider, I have. It's pretty nice in October with the Fall colours. June is humid and miserable."

"Hardly Green. Why fly to Montreal, Canada then back again? Put Canada next to USA and Mexico. And yes, same with the Asian races. AbuDhabi ending the season? Zzzzzz! Bernie got his oil money, screw F1 is his attitude."

You've not been to Canada in October have you"

"The World Motorsports Council and it's affiliated organizations should be very proud of itself for the brilliant "problem solving " job they're doing.
At this pace , the wheel will have been re-invented and cars will be obsolete before F1 's problems are solved.

How many people do you think were involved (and the expense of this) in coming up with basically two changes to the rule book that any person with some common sense would implemented."

"Still not fixing the real problems. F1 is now just a parade , not a race."

"Nothing really important. The fifth engine is the result of previous bad decisions."
