Perez: FIA releases statement

NEWS STORY
30/07/2020

The FIA has released an official statement after Sergio Point tested positive for the coronavirus this evening.

It reads:

Following today’s announcement that Sergio Perez of the BWT Racing Point Formula 1 Team produced an inconclusive test result for COVID-19 at the Silverstone Circuit ahead of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 British Grand Prix, the FIA and Formula 1 can now confirm that the result of his re-test is positive.

Perez has entered self-quarantine in accordance with the instructions of the relevant public health authorities, and will continue to follow the procedure mandated by those authorities.

With assistance of the local organiser of the British Grand Prix, local health authorities and the FIA COVID-19 delegate, a full track and trace initiative has been undertaken and all close contacts have been quarantined.

The procedures set out by the FIA and Formula 1 have provided for swift containment of an incident that will have no wider impact on this weekend’s event.

"@kenji, my guess is Perez has exposed the weakness in the whole focus in wearing a mask strategy. General hygeine, washing hands, and especially using gel after touching surfaces is no longer emphasized. Most no longer bother. We go to the supermarket, or wherever there is a public facing surface we touch and many of us rub our eyes or touch our face. Wearing a mask/face covering that in most cases (I bet) isn't even cleaned daily exacerbates the problem because it pretty much guarantees that a person will be touching their face many times a day. You are right..the virus doesn't appear by magic...but your conclusions, imo are very wrong."

"I think that the point is quite simple. The virus doesn't appear by magic...poof..just like that out of nowhere. If anyone thinks differently then time to see the chief fairy. Perez has caught it from someone with whom he's mixed. If he has flouted the stringent protocols in place then he has let everyone down. I simply cannot fathom out those who consistently defy the rules in the mistaken belief that they know better. "

"All legalese and not even a line wishing Sergio well. How predictable."

"Whilst wishing Sergio well and a quick return, what did Lewis say? "Cash is King!""
