Aston Martin's Performance Director, Tom McCullough is rumoured to be heading to Red Bull to replace Gianpiero Lambiase.

Lambiase is, of course, heading to McLaren, and for some time there has been speculation over who might replace him in the (long suffering) role of race engineer to Max Verstappen.

An exact date for the Italian's departure isn't known, and such is the bond between him and the four-time world champion that this has added to the speculation over the Dutch driver's own future with the Austrian team.

While it was thought that Performance Engineer, Tom Hart, might replace Lambiase, talk of a switch to Williams derailed the move, however it is understood the Briton has now had second thoughts.

Nonetheless, Germany's Bild claims that McCullough is now under serious consideration.

First entering motorsport with Reynard, McCullough joined Williams as a data engineer then race engineer in 2002, remaining there until 2012 when he briefly joined Sauber as head of track engineering. The following year he headed to Silverstone where he joined Force India.

He has remained at Silverstone ever since, through all of the team's various iterations, overseeing the successes of 2016 and 2017, not forgetting that historic win at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.

Though he remained with Aston Martin, when Andy Cowell was appointed CEO and Team Principal in early 2025, McCullough was effectively moved sideways into the role of Performance Director at Aston Martin Performance Technologies. Since then, it has not been a question of whether McCullough would move elsewhere but when.

According to Bild, McCullough would be "responsible for all operational matters at the racetrack and would coordinate the work of the engineers during the grands prix", however his exact role is not specified.

Following a period in which the Austrian team has haemorrhaged key personnel, McCullough's signing would follow the recent announcement that Mercedes 'talent scout', Gwen Lagrue, widely credited with 'discovering' Kimi Antonelli, has joined the Milton Keynes outfit, essentially replacing Helmut Marko, not so much as Chief Executioner but head of its prestigious Young Driver programme.

Ironically, or maybe not since this is F1 which is in many ways one big family, Lambiase, who began his F1 career with Jordan in 2005, worked with McCullough for a couple of seasons at Force India before joining Red Bull in 2015.
