Sao Paulo Grand Prix: Practice team notes - Ferrari

NEWS STORY
06/11/2026

Scuderia Ferrari HP drivers completed 110 laps across the two free practice sessions for the São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos, fielding Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Dino Beganovic over the course of the day.

The team tested all three available Pirelli slick compounds, gathering useful data on single-lap pace and over long runs. Conditions changed throughout the day: after a largely sunny first session, air temperature dropped below 20 degrees in the second one and drizzle began to fall on the circuit after around 30 minutes, although this did not affect the teams' planned programmes.

Lewis and Dino took to the track with the Swede at the wheel of Charles' SF-26 in accordance with the regulation requiring a driver with fewer than three Grands Prix under their belt to replace one of the race drivers in four sessions during the season. They began the session on Hard tyres, with Dino also completing a run with aerodynamic rakes fitted to gather data. On this compound, Lewis recorded a 1'13"246, while Dino stopped the clocks in 1'14"357. After switching to Softs, Hamilton set his fastest time of 1'12"041, which put him fourth. Dino only took to the track on the softest compound towards the end of the session, but an issue with his SF-26 meant he had to pit before he could improve his time, leaving him 21st on the time sheet. Lewis completed 31 laps, while Dino did 11.

Charles was back behind the wheel of his SF-26 for the second session alongside Lewis. They began the hour on Medium tyres before switching to Softs on which they set their fastest times: 1'11"213 for Lewis and 1'11"483 for Charles, good enough for sixth and seventh places respectively. Both then focused on long runs, first on the Softs before switching back to the Mediums used at the start of the session. Hamilton completed 35 laps and Leclerc 33, bringing the team's total to 68 for the session and 110 for the day.

Lewis Hamilton: It was a challenging day. The track is very bumpy and slippery, which made it difficult to get the tyres into the right window. FP1 was okay overall, but FP2 proved more difficult. We've gathered plenty of useful data, so we'll work through that with the team tonight to understand where we can improve the car ahead of qualifying tomorrow.

Charles Leclerc: I only drove in FP2 today and it was quite a tricky session. The feeling in the car wasn't quite right, so there's plenty for us to work on tonight. I have some ideas about the direction we need to take with the set-up and we'll make some changes for tomorrow. We need to find some performance, and hopefully we can make a good step forward for qualifying.

Dino Beganovic: It was great to be back in the car and experience such an amazing track behind the wheel. The first part of the session went well, and we collected some interesting data, however, unfortunately, our session was cut short by an issue and we didn't manage to put in as many laps as we planned.

It's always special to drive the SF26, and to be part of the team, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to run the car in a free practice. I hope to be back in the car soon.
