"We've got work to do," admits Albon

Following a dismal start to the season, Alex Albon warns that Williams must get a grip of the FW47.

What a difference a year makes. The Grove outfit ended 2025 'best of the rest', 45 points clear of its nearest rival, Racing Bulls, and with two podiums finishes to its credit, both courtesy of 'new boy' Carlos Sainz.

However, despite having the best engine - ADUO rankings aside - the Grove outfit is clearly struggling and currently stands eighth in the team rankings.

Barcelona, scene of the team's most recent win, Pastor Maldonado in 2012, highlighted the FW47's issues with high-speed corners, consequently Albon is not anticipating a strong weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

"If you look at our high speed compared to our midfield rivals, we're a good chunk off," said the That driver, according to Motorsport Week. "So obviously, the Red Bull Ring, sector two and sector three is all high-speed, so we need to see what we do.

"We can't forget, Carlos qualified a second and a half off Lawson," he added, referring to Barcelona, "so we've got some work to do."

The Spanish race marked Albon's second DNF of the season, the team eventually opting to pull the plug on what was becoming a glorified test session.

"We saw there was an issue with the car after qualifying," he admitted, "but we couldn't change it due to parc ferme rules, so we used that time in the garage just to... we couldn't correct it, but we could kind of fudge it to get it back to what it should be.

"We need to understand it," he added. "We can see the car is not behaving, and we need to fix it."

Consequently, the Thai driver has an understandable lack of confidence in the car.

"It explains why I didn't know what car I had in qualifying," he said. "Left to right, corner to corner, I didn't know what the car was going to do. So maybe it gives a bit of confidence to know something. But at the same time, I just want to make sure it's not there for Austria.

"It's just how it is," he added. "The cars are so new and we're realising it's not just about of reliability in terms of PUs, there's also reliability behind the scenes that the cars are experiencing too.

"We're going through a bit of a process of making sure the parts on the car are doing what they want to do. It's part of it. I wouldn't call it luck, I'd just say we have to get better at it, and do a better job at it."
