Scuderia Ferrari HP completed its planned programme during Friday practice for the Monaco Grand Prix.

At the end of the two sessions, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton recorded the fastest times, with Lewis setting the quickest lap of the day in the session that concluded at 18.00. As is always the case around the streets of the Principality, Friday's results should be treated with caution: the track evolved constantly throughout the day and will continue to do so tomorrow, while the gaps between the cars remain very small and all teams will continue working on setup overnight. Lewis and Charles completed a total of 131 laps without any significant issues, running all three Pirelli tyre compounds available in Monaco, as did almost all the other drivers. The focus of the day was primarily on finding the best balance and ensuring the drivers spent as much time on track as possible to get used to driving on the narrow streets and corners, which tomorrow will need to be attacked with total commitment in the fight for pole position, as grid position is the real key to having a good race on Sunday.

At 13:00, the two SF-26s took to the track on Hard tyres to get to grips with the track that was evolving rapidly. Charles and Lewis completed several laps before the session was red flagged following Isack Hadjar's accident at the second Swimming Pool chicane. When running resumed, both cars switched to Medium tyres, on which they set their benchmark times: Charles recorded a 1'13"978 and Lewis a 1'14"204. Leclerc completed 31 laps, three more than his team-mate, for a team total of 59 laps.

In the second session, work initially continued on the Medium compound, with Charles completing 16 laps and Lewis 19. During the second half of the session, both drivers switched to the Soft tyre. Hamilton then set the fastest time of the day with a 1'13"026, just ahead of Leclerc's 1'13"137. The session was interrupted in its closing stages when Sergio Perez stopped on track. Once the pit lane reopened, Lewis and Charles carried out several practice starts from the grid, ending the session with 36 laps each, for a total of 72 laps.

Lewis Hamilton: It's been a positive day overall and the car felt quite good right from the first laps. The team did a solid job with the changes we made between the two sessions and we were able to work through our programme without any major issues. Monaco is always a very different challenge, with the bumps and the close proximity of the barriers, so it's not easy to find the right balance and put everything together. There is still performance to be found and tonight we'll focus on the details, because the margins are very small here and there's plenty of work to do ahead of qualifying.

Charles Leclerc: It was a tricky day, with some work ahead of us, in particular in terms of brake balance, but I love this track and it's good to be back racing here. It's going to be very tight in qualifying tomorrow, so I hope that we can take a step forward and fight for pole position.
