Formula 1 and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) have announced that the Las Vegas Grand Prix will join the calendar from 2023.

The race will take place at night (22:00), on a Saturday in November, on the famous Las Vegas Strip with the track sweeping past some of the world’s most legendary landmarks, hotels and casinos.

The neon lights of Las Vegas will be the backdrop for the sport's third race in the US and highlights the enthusiasm in the US for the sport as it continues to grow its fan base.

Formula 1 and Liberty Media will work together to promote the race in partnership with Live Nation Entertainment and the LVCVA, as well as Founding Partners Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts International, and Wynn Las Vegas and Presenting Partners MSG Sphere, Resorts World Las Vegas and The Venetian Resort.

The proposed track is 3.8 miles (6.12km) long from start to finish with top speeds estimated to be over 212 mph (342 km/h). There will be 50 race laps with three main straights and 14 corners, including a high-speed cornering sequence and a single chicane section.

The potential of Formula 1 has been well demonstrated over the last several seasons and the Las Vegas GP will only take it to the next level."

"Just what Formula 1 needs: another horrid, soulless & dull to drive "street" (Car Park?) circuit. I'm all for more races in USA - if that's what US citizens want. But Vegas?
"Liberty" & FIA is now parodic. A Sports body\Promoter intent on tasteless pursuit of additional events\revenue irrespective of quality.

USA is a big place with lots of Racetracks, some of which would surely prove a worthwhile addition to the Calendar. but of course none of these will stump up the sort of dosh that Liberty wants\needs."

"@ian_w, as a Canadian myself, objectively Montreal is out of sync with the rest of the races. F1 is able to race in our only summer weekend, it's always a fly away race from Europe and then back , and finally, it's not American. It's the overwhelming need for F1 to please an American audience and $$$$ that seems to be driving an expansion. The money talks. Any more discussion on dropping Saudi Arabia this week? Not much. As has often been said, follow the money. Which Canadian company is major sponsor in F1 that can compete with Aramco?"

"@Superbird70, as a Canadian who's been to the Montreal GP, perhaps I'm biased, but even the drivers and teams would say it's the very best of destinations on the GP circuit. You cannot go anywhere in the city w/o knowing it's a special week in town. That's the atmosphere F1 is trying to recreate at their newer venues, even like Austin and with the fanzones. Instead, all of Montreal is a fanzone. I'm sure more than a few of the drivers/teams would be asking, "You want us to race in Jeddah but you are saying no to Montreal? What did Montreal/Canada do to deserve that?""

"I’m struggling to work out what “ some of the world’s most legendary landmarks…” might be, unless they mean the fake miniature Eiffel Tower, the fake miniature Sphinx etc. It all sounds very plasticky and, er, fake. A long way from the proper race tracks which are the sports natural home."

"I am so disappointed by this. All of these concrete wall and fence tracks are awful. As a tv viewer they are terrible and soulless with no sense of atmosphere. All I hear is Sky TV (and C4) pundits saying how fabulous Singapore etc etc is. They haven’t watched their own coverage of these circuits ever evidently. The tv experience pays for F1 and they have no clue! "

"They'll probably drop Canada from the schedule to fit Las Vegas in. From a logistics standpoint it doesn't fit in too well anymore if they have 3 races in the USA. They'll need to have a Middle East/Asian/Oceania cycle of races. A European cycle and an Americas (N/S) cycle of races to make all the travel and scheduling fit for an expanded schedule. "

"Having been to Las Vegas many many times I can say that apart from the first time it was horrible place to be...plastic food in crappy restaurants and so on...but, for one weekend a year, as long as the racing is good then I'm all for it. Location is secondary and it will look fine at night.It's new and I'm open minded so people should get behind it and try to be positive for a change. "
