Ericsson given all-clear to race

Marcus Ericsson has been given the all-clear to race in today's British Grand Prix.

Following his high impact crash during yesterday's practice session, having been examined at the circuit's own medical facility, Marcus Ericsson was taken to Oxford Hospital for further cautionary checks.

The stewards subsequently confirmed that the Swede would need to undergo an examination by the Chief Medical Officer this morning before a final decision could be made as to his fitness to drive.

The race stewards have this morning issued the following brief statement confirming that Ericsson is 'good to go'.

"Following a medical examination undertaken this morning at the Silverstone Circuit Medical Centre, the FIA has cleared Sauber F1 Team driver Marcus Ericsson to take part in today’s British Grand Prix."

Taking to social media, Sauber confirmed the good news: "Good morning all! Green light for Marcus :) he will start the British GP from the pit lane".

"Medical check, tick… car check, tick = let's go racing!!" added Ericsson shortly after. "Huge thanks to my guys for building me a new car."

Having given the driver the all-clear, race stewards will now re-scrutineer his car.
