Ericsson taken to hospital following FP3 crash

NEWS STORY
09/07/2016

Marcus Ericsson has been taken to hospital following his heavy crash in this morning's practice session.

The crash, which saw the Swede's Sauber wrecked, and also extensive damage to the safety barrier, happened when he ran wide on to the damp Astroturf coming out of Stowe.

The youngster was a passenger as his car speared into the barriers on the other side of the track.

Slow to get out of the car initially, Ericsson was subsequently checked by a medical examiner by the side of the track, the Swede, once given the all-clear, waving to the crowds.

However, as it worked to repair his car in time for qualifying, the team revealed the driver had been taken by ambulance to a local hospital as a precaution.

"Update on Marcus: He is on the way to a hospital for routine check-ups," tweeted the team.

Even if the Swede is given the thumbs-up to take part in qualifying, there are serious doubts as to whether his car will be in any fit state.
