Drivers open minded on 'push to pass'

NEWS STORY

One of the proposals being put forward for 2011 is a device that stores energy recovered from braking which is subsequently used by drivers as additional power, the so-called 'push to pass' button.

Speaking in Canada, drivers had mixed views.

"I haven't really thought about it before," admitted Jenson Button. "If it helps with overtaking, yeah, it's a good thing, but obviously it needs to be tested and we, as drivers, need to be able to feel that it's the right way (to go) because it's something very new to the sport.

"I'm not in the PR department of Honda," revealed Williams driver Alex Wurz, "but if it's ecological it fits into their marketing strategy, but we have a Toyota engine and Toyota also has hybrid energy, so at the end of the day, if Formula One thinks that it's the way to go, for them, for the sport, for the marketing position, then yeah, we should go there. If it's raceable, why not?

"Anything that helps the sport and anything that makes it more interesting, really. Yeah, why not," added Ralf Schumacher, "but let's wait and see."

And as for Giancarlo Fisichella: "It could be good, could be not good, but we need to test it."

At least nobody mentioned the word "gimmick"
