Having just secured his second successive World Championship title wiith Renault, Fernando Alonso now heads to McLaren, which failed to score a single win this season, despite finishing runner-up in 2005 and scoring seven wins.

While some believe Alonso could be facing a difficult season, or two, the Spaniard remains confident in his new team, and believe he has made the right decision.

"I'm really looking forward to starting work with the new car and the new team," he told the Spanish newspaper El Pais. "There is a lot of work to do but that is the same with every team. They all have to work hard for next season.

"Mercedes is a great manufacturer," he added, "and I have no doubt that we will have a competitive McLaren for the next few years. I also believe that they are the team that work best on car development during the season."
