McLaren, Red Bull and Audi carry out two-day test of 2027 tyres at Mugello.

On Wednesday, at the track that hosted the Gran Premio della Toscana in 2020, Liam Lawson was at the wheel of the Red Bull and Oscar Piastri the McLaren as they tested the three hardest compounds in the range.

Lawson focused on the C2, completing a series of eight-lap screening runs on different solutions before moving on in the afternoon to longer stints aimed at validating the most promising options.

Piastri, meanwhile, tested all three compounds, from C1 to C3, with short stints before ending the day with a couple of 14-lap runs.

The Australian set his best time of 1:21.358, completing a total of 93 laps, while Lawson stopped the clock at 1:22.297, covering 116 laps. The highest track temperature recorded reached 55 degrees C.

Thursday saw Zandvoort winner, Lando Norris on duty for McLaren, Ayumu Iwasa for Red Bull and Nico Hulkenberg for Audi.

The Japanese driver was the only one to test all three options, concentrating mainly on C1 and C2 before carrying out several C3 screening runs in the afternoon.

Norris, by contrast, devoted the entire day to C2, identifying the most promising solutions among the prototypes assessed in the morning during the afternoon session.

Hulkenberg, meanwhile, split his programme between C2 and C3.

The Audi driver completed a total of 121 laps and set a best time of 1:24.012. Norris covered 115 laps, recording a fastest lap of 1:21"899, while the Super Formula champion completed 117 laps, stopping the clock at 1:23.414.

Across the two days a total of 1,831 (2948kms) were completed. On Thursday, track temperatures peaked at 52 degrees C.

The next test dedicated to the development of dry-weather compounds is scheduled to take place at Imola on 15 and 16 September, with Ferrari and Racing Bulls.
