Ever his own harshest critic, Lando Norris gives himself a slap on the back following Zandvoort masterclass.

Though he doesn't believe he has the car with which to battle for the title, 2025 world champion, Norris finally gives himself some credit.

"They're not going to say it themselves if they just got beaten today," said Norris, when told of Mercedes claim post-race that McLaren is now the pace-setter. So I don't think it's true.

"I think if I didn't get Kimi when I overtook him, I don't think I would have won the race today," he added.

"You know, it's hard to say, but I also know how good a job I'm doing behind the wheel," he continued. "And of course, I never want to overtalk about myself. I'm always the complete opposite. But for once, I would give myself a little bit of credit that I feel like I'm doing a better job than everyone. And I think that can also make a difference."

Indeed, the Briton is one of his own harshest critics, a trait which many see as a weakness, and in some ways indicative of his admitted 'mental struggles', the McLaren star having often spoken of having little to no self-belief.

"I think that can make a difference," he said. "We have a car now capable of beating them. We didn't win yesterday and we didn't change much, but I worked a lot on my driving.

"I want to believe more than everyone else," he continued. "I make one mistake we are P4, P5. So the fact that I am doing a good job is the reason why people are saying it.

"When the car gives me what I want and I am driving at the level I am now, I can win races," he insisted. "I was able to force him to make mistakes, force them to do something with strategy," he added, referring to Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes.

"We turned things around today," he smiled. "So we certainly have a very similar car, I would say, in both Mercedes. But I think they have a better all-round performing car than what we do.

"We are more specifically focused on high speed." he added. "Turns 7 and 8 were our biggest two corners where we gained that time today."
