Alonso: Three titles is the objective

The day after securing his second successive Drivers' Championship title, the youngest driver to do so, Fernando Alonso has revealed that he would be happy to settle for one more title before he retires.

"To join McLaren and never to race with Ferrari reminds me a lot of Senna," he told Spanish broadcaster Telecinco today. "He won three titles and for me, to retire with three, and achieve what he achieved would be the objective of my career."

Earlier this year, Alonso and Renault appeared to be cruising to back-to-back titles, then, a fight back by Ferrari, coupled with various outside influences, saw both titles swing in favour of the Italian team and its German driver. Alonso remains angry at what happened in Italy, when he was given a dubious penalty, just days after his team's controversial mass damper system had been outlawed.

"Not to have won this year would have been made me really angry, and would have been such an injustice," he admitted. "For this reason I was extra motivated in Brazil to make sure that everything remained where it has done throughout the year, in our own hands."
