Ecclestone heads to Turkey

NEWS STORY
13/08/2002

Bernie Ecclestone will travel to Turkey ahead of this weekend's Hungarian GP to visit the three sites keen to stage the country's first Grand Prix.

The F1 supremo will arrive in Istanbul tomorrow lunchtime where he will visit a circuit within the Olympic Village.

Ecclestone will stay in Istanbul overnight before travelling to Izmir early on Thursday morning to look at another proposed site for the race, and he is then scheduled to travel to Antalya in the afternoon before flying to Budapest for this weekend's race.

The three cities currently bidding to stage the Turkish GP handed over presentation documents and unveiled plans for funding in a meeting last week, although Ecclestone did not attend.

Istanbul is favourite to host a Turkish GP, but there have been concerns that the city would find it hard to find enough land to build a world class circuit.
