Final upgrade for Ferrari

NEWS STORY
02/09/2016

Ferrari is the first team to use its entire allocation of engine tokens this season, before the scheme is scrapped entirely in 2017.

The upgrade, which used up the Maranello outfit's three remaining tokens, was originally due to be introduced in Belgium but instead the Italian manufacturer opted to hold it over for its home race.

The delay, though only a matter of a few days, also allowed the team to carry out further reliability checks on the dyno rather than discovering any niggles on track in front of its adoring fans.

While the team is not expecting a major step forward with the upgrade, it is expecting a significant improvement in addition to assisting development for 2017.

It's understood, though not confirmed, that Haas will benefit from the upgrade, while Sauber, the only other team using the 2016 power unit, will not receive it until later in the season.

While Ferrari no longer has any tokens, Honda has 3, Mercedes 6 and Renault 21.

Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will use the updated units today, and as the changes are made within their allocation no penalties will be incurred.

The German and his teammate will receive complete new units bar the MGU-K, while the Haas duo will benefit from new ICE, turbocharger, MGU-H and MGU-K.
