The Italian GP Podcast

NEWS STORY
11/09/2014

While host Mat Coch might have gone 'walkabout' following the Belgian Grand Prix, the Pitpass team is back with added gusto following an Italian Grand Prix it describes as "not a classic, but not too bad".

Making up for lost time, Editor Chris Balfe, Glen Crompton and Coch quickly delve into the heart of the Mercedes conspiracy theory, Crompo clearly bothered by the fact someone beat him to the conspiracy-theory-punch. Rather than labouring the point though they agree that the rivalry is good for the media, but not for much more.

On the whole they concede the race was entertaining, certainly more so than usual where the race is typically decided at the first chicane. However, there are fears for the future of the circuit, not helped by the fact that Ferrari is struggling, hence the swathes of empty seats in the grandstands.

Daniil Kvyat's engine penalty gets the team discussing the power unit regulations and the implication they will have as we move in to the final phase of the season. It's a topic which sparks emotive debate over the sport's current situation, and the silliness within it.

Crompo offers his own solution to falling spectator numbers, which involves a unique use of former drivers, while Balfe derides the sanitisation of the sport. Hoping people forget his faux pas following Belgium, Coch remains uncharacteristically quiet.

At almost half-an-hour, the show efficiently manages to solve all the sport's major problems, cover all that really mattered in terms of the Italian Grand Prix, provide a few handy tips for removing awkward stains out of a shag carpet and even provide a solution to please both sides in terms of the referendum on Scottish independence.

"What happened to the Spa podcast? The most controversial talking point of the year and the Pitpass crew go on "holiday"!! Or did the FIA mandatory break apply to you too?"
