Webber hits out

NEWS STORY
27/07/2013

Sports Car bound Mark Webber aired his frustration as continuing problems with his car leave him starting Hungarian Grand Prix from fifth row.

A while back, Fernando Alonso suggested that sooner or later Sebastian Vettel would run out of luck, the Spaniard, like many, of the opinion that the German appears to have a guardian angel ensuring that all runs smoothly for the world champion, even if it was off-duty on the day of the British Grand Prix.

At the same time, teammate Mark Webber appears to be the sort of driver who if he didn't have bad luck would have no luck at all. If ever there's a failure it's usually his car, if ever something is to break for the first time ever it will be on the Red Bull sporting the number two.

In the wake of another (KERS) failure which left him starting the Hungarian Grand Prix from tenth - on a circuit on which overtaking is nigh impossible - the Australian vented his frustration.

"KERS, gearbox, you name it, driving the car so far off its potential is unbelievable and so massively frustrating," he told reporters. "It's stupid, it's embarrassing and it's a brutal circuit to be out of position.

"We should be challenging for the front row and we're bloody tenth," he continued. "A pain in the arse. It's amazing, all the effort you go to and it's two weekends on the bounce where you get that."

In Germany, the Australian suffered when a wheel became detached from his car - subsequently hitting an FOM cameraman - after being released too early from his pitstop. This followed problems in Australia, China and the infamous "multi 21" saga in Malaysia.

"We have to get on top of the problems, we can't race the car like this," he sighed. "I can't question the guys' efforts in the garage, the guys are there, the conditions are horrible to work in. They are working their nuts off but I can't answer why there are issues again."

Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, a season in which he has yet to score a win, he said: "I'll just look for wins and some special moments and still make my presence felt, that's all I can keep doing. But you need to have everything going smoothly to win races and that's not happening at the moment."
