Barrichello wins in Hungary

Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher dominated the Hungarian GP to secure Ferrari's fourth consecutive Constructors' Championship.

Barrichello took his second win of the season after making a perfect start this afternoon, and the Brazilian and his team-mate put their rivals to shame, crossing the line thirteen seconds ahead of third place Ralf Schumacher.

Despite McLaren’s worst qualifying performance in several years yesterday Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard both managed to finish in the points. The duo were held up by Renault stars Trulli and Button early in the race but their pace increased significantly as time went on and they eventually took 4th and 5th after the second run of pitstops.

Giancarlo Fisichella claimed the final point of the afternoon but will be frustrated after looking certain to finish 4th. The Italian made a great start but his car was ultimately unable to match the performance of the McLaren.

Ferrari were understandably delighted to have secured the Constructors’ title in such impressive style, and Technical Director Ross Brawn could not keep the grin off his face.

"It’s very special for us," said Ross.

"It reflects on the team and it reflects on the car. Ferrari are racing against the top car companies in the world and we’ve won it for the last four years."

A mistake from Jenson Button saw the Englishman beach his Renault in the gravel and he retired from 5th place after spinning out on dust from Anthony Davidson’s Minardi.

Juan Pablo Montoya had a miserable afternoon despite enjoying a series of battles with Kimi Raikkonen. The Colombian damaged his car by running over the kerbs and was passed by his Finnish rival soon afterwards. Although Montoya pitted soon after his mistake WilliamsF1 mechanics did nothing unusual to his car and Technical Director Patrick Head was clearly irritated that his driver had not stayed out on track.

Montoya’s pace dropped off significantly when he rejoined the track and he eventually crossed the line down in 11th.

Barrichello was characteristically delighted to score his third career victory, almost dancing on the podium as he listened to the Italian national anthem, while Ralf Schumacher was also remarkably pleased with his podium this afternoon.

"I think the most important thing is to have clinched the Constructors’," said Rubens.

"For the team we have said how good they are and how good we are together. We have a great car, great team, great pitstops - great everything.

"Having the Constructors’ by winning the race with a one-two is just a fantastic thing."

Anthony Davidson made his Formula One debut with Minardi this afternoon, but failed to reach the chequered flag after spinning in to retirement during the late stages of the race.

The Englishman enjoyed his first experience of F1 racing, and was quick to apologise to former rival Jenson Button for contributing to the Renault driver’s retirement.

"I’m pretty pleased but disappointed to have got in the way of Jenson," said Davidson.

"I ended up ruining his race and I’m really sorry about that. It’s not as easy as it looks!"
