BIOGRAPHY

Daniel began his motorsport career in 2004 in karts, aged 13, finishing 21st in the Copa Campeones Trophy Junior and 32nd in the Andrea Margutti Trophy ICA Junior class.

His single-seater career got underway in 2007 when he participated in the Master Junior Formula, winning seven races on his way to finishing runner-up. That year he also found time to contest several rounds of the Formula BMW ADAC.

The following season saw him contest the new Formula BMW Europe series and several rounds of the Formula BMW Americas series. Finishing fourth in the former he went on to finish fourth also in the Formula BMW World Finals. In a promising move he was also signed to the Red Bull Driver Programme.

2009 saw him focus on Formula BMW Europe, a move that paid off when he finished second overall to Felipe Nasr, but ahead of Robin Frijns, even though he only scored one win (Monza). Despite scoring points in every race he was dropped from the Red Bull Driver programme at season end.

2010 saw Daniel divide his time between the the Formula 3 Euro Series with Prema Powerteam, GP3 with Tech 1 Racing and a few rounds of the British Formula Three Championship, again with Prema Powerteam. However, he achieved little even though his season got off to a promising start by taking pole for the opening round of the Euro Series.

He remained in Formula 3 Euro for 2011, again with Prema, in addition to the FIA Formula 3 International Trophy. Finishing third in both series he returned to Macau, having not been classified the previous year, to take a surprise win.

2012 was a superb year for the Spanish youngster, winning the Formula 3 Euro Series, the FIA European Formula 3 Championship and the Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort.

2013 saw him make the surprise switch to DTM, driving the Mucke Motorsport Mercedes. A difficult season saw him finish 16th in the championship, his best result being a 4th at the Norisring.

On the other hand, 2013 also saw the youngster make his F1 debut, driving the Williams at Silverstone in the Young Driver Test, posting the fifth best timer on his first day and eleventh on the second.

On 24 January 2014, Daniel was revealed as Force India's test and reserve driver.

Confirming that in addition to a number of Friday sessions, Daniel would continue in DTM, Force India boss Vijay Mallya described the youngster as "an exciting prospect".

Handed the VJM07 for the final day of the opening test at Jerez, Daniel finished an impressive third overall, 1.228s down on pace-setter Felipe Massa. He was in action again at the Barcelona and Silverstone tests, but not Abu Dhabi where the team ran Jolyon Palmer and Spike Goddard.

As part of his duties the Spaniard also took part in FP1 at the British, Italian and Brazilian Grands Prix.

On duty at all Grands Prix in 2014, Daniel still found time to contest the DTM with Mucke Motorsport, his best result being Lausitzring where he finished fourth.
