Mercedes and Williams in action at Silverstone as development of 2027 slick tyres continues.

The test got underway on Tuesday as Pirelli set about finalising the structure of the dry-weather tyres for next season, ahead of the specification freeze set by the regulations for 1 September.

George Russell was on track for Mercedes and Carlos Sainz for Williams. The programme featured screening runs during the morning, before focusing in the afternoon on the most promising solutions through long runs.

Track temperature reached 46 degrees C, while air temperature peaked at 31 degrees.

Russell completed 113 laps, setting the fastest time of 1:30.695, while Sainz covered 61 laps, posting a best time of 1:33.576. Due to a technical issue, the Williams was unable to complete the day's programme.

Wednesday saw the two teams conclude the test, with Kimi Antonelli and Alex Albon taking to the track.

The world championship leader continued the work started by his team-mate on the development of next season's tyre construction. In the morning he completed a series of screening runs before focusing in the afternoon on long runs aimed at evaluating the most promising solutions identified earlier in the day. The Italian completed 102 laps, setting a best time of 1.31.511.

Albon's programme focused instead on the C2 and C1 compounds. In the morning the Thai driver carried out several performance runs, while the afternoon was devoted to longer distances to further assess the most interesting options. He set a best time of 1.31.747, completing a total of 97 laps.

The maximum temperatures recorded were slightly higher than on Tuesday, with 49 degrees C on track and 34 degrees in the air.

The next Pirelli development tests are scheduled after the Hungarian Grand Prix, where the Milanese company's engineers will be in action on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 July together with Audi, Alpine and Aston Martin.
