The FIA has issued a brief statement following today's meeting with the teams and engine manufacturers over the 2026 regulations.

Sadly, little of substance has come out of it, other than confirmation of some "tweaks" that will be made and further meetings during the enforced break.

"It was generally agreed that although the events to date have provided exciting racing," reads the statement, "there was a commitment to making tweaks to some aspects of the regulations in the area of energy management.

"There was constructive dialogue on difficult topics especially when considering the competitive nature of the stakeholders," it continues.

"As part of the round of collaborative discussions, further meetings are planned over the coming fortnight. There is a Sporting Regulations meeting on April 15 during which any changes in Section B that are required to facilitate the technical changes will be discussed. The next technical session will be on April 16 during which points discussed today will be followed up and new topics will be given exposure.

"A high-level meeting with representation from all stakeholders is scheduled for April 20 where it is anticipated that preferred options jointly proposed by the technical teams will be considered and a consensus sought on the way forward.

"The 2026 regulations were developed and agreed in close partnership with teams, OEMs, Power Unit Manufacturers, the commercial rights holder and the FIA all at the table. It is in this spirit of collaboration that potential changes are being discussed."

The April 20 meeting, which comes just over a week ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, is in all but name a meeting of the F1 Commission but with the inclusion of the engine manufacturers. The meeting will be followed by an e-vote, before any changes are put before the World Motor Sport Council.

The very fact that the statement begins with the claim of "exciting racing" suggests that, as expected, the focus is on 'the show', and that any tweaks will relate mainly to qualifying and safety.

Naturally, the drivers - the supposed stars of the show - don't get a mention, and their opinions will not be sought... then again, we already know what most of them think.

You may have noticed a number of posts on social media from the FIA yesterday.

Nothing to do with the sh*t show that is F1 2026, and in particular the rules applying to power units, but rather something else that "powers" the Formula One World Championship.

A report prepared by the sport's governing body, and obediently taken up by the usual media lickspittles, reveals that "20,000 volunteers power each F1 season".

"Without volunteers we couldn’t go racing," they declare, "and the FIA F1 Volunteer Report has revealed the unique role they have powering Formula 1."

A sport which openly flaunts its (increasing) wealth, where even those teams at the back of the grid are worth billions, where circuits/countries are dropped from the schedule, or put on a rotational basis, because they cannot afford the fees.

And the governing body openly admits that it couldn't continue without those who give their time - and often much, much more - for free."

"@ Editor, a friend of mine is fond of saying "money ruined football" when looking back at the game and how it has changed over the past few decades. Formula One has always been 'expensive' but the amount of money sloshing around now means the line between sport and business has been well and truly crossed. TP's can't say anything bad because their shareholders will think their investments are at risk and anyone who steps out of line is in danger of being Mario'd."

"There is certainly reason for gloom. I do however think the current regulations will ultimately fail the objective of more money. I am losing interest and I doubt I'm alone.

I haven't had the desire to attend this year's watch party's so far. Kind of crestfallen. I hope to attend the next watch party in three weeks time to feel the pulse of the young folks interest. We will see."

I awoke in the night, as you sometimes do, with an article almost fully formed in my head; when or if I get round to actually writing it remains to be seen.

The basic concept is that; “they are all on the same side”.

By that I mean that back in the day we had Bernie, Max and the teams… always fighting, always threatening, divide and rule was the way.

But now, F1/Liberty, the FIA and the teams are united, all singing from the same hymn sheet.

I have been critical of the official F1 website for never posting anything negative, but the same goes for the teams. Amidst all the crap they post on social media - send us pics of your pets and merchandise, is it race week, here’s Charles pouting, it's Oscar's birthday, here's Pierre’s pooch - there is never any mention of scandal, no reference to the 2026 rules outcry or anything remotely negative.

And the reason they are united, is that now they all have the same common goal, money. F1/Liberty has given them something Bernie and Max would never have allowed, the thought that they are all equal.

The new fans they cater for are the future, they are not interested in the past or anything else, all they see is growth and more money, and the actual racing is very small part of the package."

"The FIA are just stalling. There is no way on Earth that they will even consider changing ANYTHING. Its not exciting when all the driver has to do to make a pass is to press a button. Wow, now that takes a lot of skill. Its not Racing at all. Soon F1 will become boring and there will be no fans left."
