Racing Point snares Williams sponsors

NEWS STORY
14/02/2019

While ROKit dominated the conversation following Williams unveiling of its 'toothpaste' livery on Monday, it was only when Racing Point revealed its version 48 hours later that it became clear the Silverstone-based outfit has snared two of the Grove outfit's sponsors.

Though last week Williams announced a partnership with James Harvest Sportswear, Hackett, the British menswear retailer, and JCB, the multinational corporation which manufactures equipment for construction, agriculture, waste handling and demolition, have clearly jumped ship from Grove to Silverstone, along with Canada Life and Bombardier.

Speaking at the Toronto livery unveiling, Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer made a point of reading out most of the sponsors logos seen on the car, making it clear that there is still room for more.

Meanwhile, the team that already has a reputation for punching well above its weight, even when it was in financial turmoil, delighted fans when it became clear that BWT (Best Water Technology) has continued its partnership and therefore the cars remain pink.

Indeed, at a time BWT has confirmed that it has extended its association with the Silverstone-based team, it's worth remembering that the situation was so dire at Force India last year, before the team went into administration, that the water technology company had to make two loans to the team "of £757,000 and €535,000 to assist with its cash flow" and subsequently lent the team a further £5m to cover its July wages bill.

"@ @R1Racing71

It would be difficult to do an "informed piece" without inflicting further damage.

We have already made it clear the effort the team went to to secure Rich Energy and its despondency when it lost out.

With that in mind, and Monday's reveal, I don't think there's much more to know."

"RP are looking like a very sound and financially stable team. I would expect them to punch way above their weight this year.
I’m sorry they have pinched a couple of Williams partners, but to be fair this is a business and you can hardly blame them.
Personally I would welcome an informed piece on Williams on this website, it doesn’t need to rub any salt – or overly negative, the stopwatch doesn’t lie.
