Vettel unhappy with Verstappen move

NEWS STORY
14/11/2016

Sebastian Vettel less than impressed with Max Verstappen's charge through the field.

While the rest of the world is singing the praises of Max Verstappen this morning - a line we've have written before and appear destined to repeat many more times over the coming years - one person not sold on the Dutch youngster's bravura performance at Interlagos is Sebastian Vettel.

The four-time world champion was one of the last challenges facing Verstappen as he recovered from a late switch from intermediate back to full wets which dropped him to fourteenth.

Having disposed of one rival after another the next in his sights was Vettel. The German, who had himself staged an impressive fight back following a previous spin, held off Verstappen when he made his initial bid in one of his favoured passing spots (T3) but was subsequently passed in T12 (Juncao) when the Red Bull driver went down the inside forcing the Ferrari wide.

Not for the first time the words "he pushed me off" echoed over the airwaves.

"I think I was racing him side-by-side," said the German. "He saw me, I still had a little bit of my nose ahead and he was much faster. So it was about the corner where he gets past, not if he gets past. But I don't think it was correct."

Referring to his spin - at the same corner - earlier in the race, he said: "Obviously, it was not ideal in the first part to spin. I had some aquaplaning but I wasn't the only one. I think it was a good recovery in the end.

"I struggled to get past Carlos, I don't know why it took a lot of laps but by then it was too late."

Other drivers who called foul over the course of the afternoon were Fernando Alonso when Vettel passed him in T10 as they battled for seventh, and Esteban Ocon of Nico Hulkenberg when the German passed the Manor driver for ninth.

"People, do read between the lines.
It's a modern F1, it's the rule of PR in it now - never apologize and always say others are wrong, no matter what happens. Like in football - raise your hands up whatever happens. Look at the recent press conference, everyone starts their answer with "obviously, I agree/disagree" just based on what side they have. Just ignore that line and read further.
Look at what Vettel actually said - it's not moaning, it's just a required amount of PR duly delivered :)"

"I was a Seb fan for a long time. He started his career in F1 by winning at Monza in a car that was outclassed and should not have won, he got my attention. At Red Bull he did a superb job, always compimenting his team and never complaining about other drivers, but this year, he's losing me... He whines constantly, "Get the out of my way, he dangerous, he's an idiot and the famous telling Charlie to F**k himself. Pathetic. And this, complaining because Verstappen smoked by him and left him no room, pushed him onto the curbs, and he reuns Alonso completely off the track. Grow Seb, the world does not rotate around you, and Ferrari will replace you if you don't bring up your game and quit wrecking their cars. 4 championships mean nothing when you act like that and the guys upstairs at Maranello do not care about your old dusty trophies, they only care about the trophies you can still get them, so get on with it and quit whining! "Vettel needs to chill and realize that once and a while great drivers come along. "

"Vettel did the same to Alonso a couple of laps before and then again with Max Verstappen, who chose not to let his car be pushed off, so he backed off from that impossible spot. Then he paid Vettel back. Good for him!
Vettel should stop moaning like a spoiled child. "

"I'm not a Vettel fan, a bit too much "Princess Stampy Foot " in the past. However in this case Verstappen couldn't argue that he didn't see Vettel and effectively he did push Vettel off. Vettel was a touch in front too.

Otherwise an excellent and exciting drive from Max."

"We need to trim the article title to a more decriptive form. "Vettel unhappy"
Considering how he complains about everyone these days. Hopefully the winter does him good because his stature as a champion has eroded considerably with all the whining."
