Palmer to miss qualifying

NEWS STORY

Cracked chassis means that Jolyon Palmer will not take part in today's qualifying session.

The Briton, who finished fourteenth in this morning's practice session, was discovered to have cracked the chassis on his Renault probably after running over a kerb.

"I won't be taking part in quali after we found a crack in the chassis," tweeted Palmer around twenty minutes before the start of the session. "Big shame as we were 14th in FP3 and aiming for Q2 again."

The team had worked throughout the break between the two sessions and attempted to build him a new chassis but eventually ran out of time.

"A crack was discovered on his chassis after FP3," said Trackside Operations Director, Alan Permane. "This was likely caused when he ran over a kerb.

"The crack was on the underside of the chassis near to the seatbelt mount so we had to change chassis for safety reasons, and this takes more time than there was available between the sessions."

The Briton will consequently start tomorrow's race from the back of the grid.
