Magnussen unimpressed by Halo

NEWS STORY

Following his first trial of Halo devise, Kevin Magnussen likens it to a cap being pulled down over your eyes.

Once again the opening session of a Grand Prix weekend saw drivers try the controversial device even though there is no clear indication when, or if, it will be introduced.

Friday saw Sergio Perez, Felipe Masa, Pascal Wehrlein and Kevin Magnussen all running the Halo.

"Not a big fan, it feels weird," said the Dane at the conclusion of the day's activities. "It's like having a cap that's pulled down, and you can see where you're walking, but you can't see anything else. I don't like it.

"The visibility is not as good as I'd hoped," he added, "so I think on tracks where there is elevation it's going to be a problem."

Indeed, Magnussen feels that there are other safety related aspects the sport should look at ahead of the Halo.

"The accident with Jules wouldn't have been any different if he'd had a halo," he said. "The halo would work in a situation where a wheel hits the head, or maybe a nose cone, which is what happened with Justin Wilson. But in Formula 1 there are other things that need changing.

"Tracks, gravel in many places, what we've done with the virtual safety car when there are trucks on the track is very good," he said. "Though I would have preferred to have gravel in Spa instead of Tarmac run-off."
