Pirelli to provide live tyre info during races

NEWS STORY

Pirelli has revealed that it is working with FOM in order to keep fans fully informed on strategy during races.

Whilst the Italian manufacturer has already revealed the compounds for the first four races - and they're all the same - fans, especially the more casual variety the sport is trying so hard to secure, are already somewhat baffled by the new regulation which see drivers allowed to choose from three compounds but having to use two of them for Q3 and the race.

Concerned that fans will lose track, Pirelli is working with FOM to provide live updates on tyre strategy.

"We are working with FOM to give the information live during the races so every spectator can understand what's going to happen," Pirelli's racing manager Mario Isola told Motorsport.com.

"I think it's useful also for the media to know exactly which is the situation and the strategy. With the new regulations they have not only three compounds but the ability to choose 10 sets, so I hope we are going to see different strategies and more interesting races.

"To do that, you obviously need the information and you need to know which tyre each driver has available in the garage - and we are working together with FOM to provide this information."

Can't wait to see how the F1 live timing app handles that.

"Mandating use of multiple compounds should stay in effect, but every tire compound should be available at every race. That change would facilitate much greater variety of race strategy and improve the show.

If Pirelli want to give us tire info live during the races I wanna know temps and pressures in real time, not just who is on what compound. "
