Rosberg takes fourth engine

Nico Rosberg, 53 points down on his teammate with seven races remaining, is to use a new engine this weekend, his fourth of the year.

At Monza, like his teammate and title rival Lewis Hamilton, the German took on his third unit of the year, the much anticipated upgrade that saw Mercedes use the last of its development tokens.

However, a cooling issue in FP3 meant the German had to revert to a six-race old unit for qualifying and the race, this unit subsequently failing three laps from the end meaning he failed to score points for the first time this season.

Although Mercedes has repaired the updated engine, concerns over its reliability, especially on a track as demanding as Singapore meant the German team was unwilling to take a gamble and therefore Rosberg takes on his fourth and final unit of the year.

"We are not sure how compromising it will be yet, a small compromise at least or maybe a big one, we don't know yet," Rosberg told reporters.

Brushing aside claims that the championship is already as good as lost, Rosberg said: "I have the chance to keep believing or not and I have chosen to keep believing because it is going to help for the next couple of races and historically in sport anything can happen.

"There are still seven races to go, lots of points, so I keep pushing. With the car that we have its possible to win every race weekend which is a great feeling so focus on race weekends and then see what Lewis does.

"I want to win the championship," he concluded. "The feeling last year in Singapore was a lot better than now as I had 20 something points the other way. I much preferred that one."
