The Singapore GP Podcast

NEWS STORY
25/09/2014

But for the safety car, the Singapore Grand Prix would have been a bit of a snooze-fest, according to the Pitpass team who are back to right all of Formula One's wrongs.

Host Mat Coch is once again joined by editor Chris Balfe and Glen Crompton as they share their insights on Lewis Hamilton's seventh victory of the season. They also rue the misfortune of Nico Rosberg, and collectively hope the championship isn't decided by Mercedes unreliability – or Bernie Ecclestone’s dreaded double points in Abu Dhabi.

Clearly spoiling for a fight, Crompo once again baits Coch over Sergio Perez's race, while at the same time suggesting Kimi Raikkonen has the ability to see in to the future with regards to the new radio rules.

Said radio rules are amongst the topics that get the team most riled, triggering several impassioned monologues from Balfe who looks to set the world straight over what is wrong with the sport.

Stupid rules masquerading as 'what the fans want' top the list, and he doesn't shy away from a cheeky swipe at Mr Ecclestone either.

At 24 minutes it runs about the same as an American sit-com, and, for the most part, is more interesting and funny.

"The trouble with F1 is we keep hearing about 'the show' when what we should be hearing about is 'the race'... Singapore may look fantastic under the lights and maybe an exotic venue blah blah blah, but if the racing is no good what's the point?"

"Snooze fest is pretty apt for this venue.
Always find it the most boring turn out of the year. Would rather watch Monaco any day."

"I found the comment "snooze fest" interesting as I had similar thoughts at the conclusion of watching the race on Sunday. I am a huge F1 fan and have been for many many years - but I actually nodded off during the telecast due to the lack of overall interest or excitement at the time.
Singapore is presented by the broadcast media team with all sorts of glowing reports of the venue, the city and everything else that is a part of the event. But for a fan watching on TV here in the States it had very little enjoyment and came far short of the "Monaco of the East" as it was touted by many.
For me it was more the appearance of the track and the broadcast at night. So much of the enjoyment of watching F! is seeing all the great locations - the surrounding parts of the track and the locations that all go together to make it so special through out the season. This Singapore race was not that.
I am looking forward to Japan to bring back the high level of pure enjoyment I so often expect and achieve from watching my favorite sports event."
