Gurmit's View: Drastic Measures

NEWS STORY
01/07/2014

Having finally given the green light for F1 to return to the former Osterreichring, Red Bull owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, considering his team's four successive titles, will have understandably harboured dreams of a fairy-tale conclusion, his cars taking first and second on their very own track.

But it was not to be, indeed, of the two teams owned by the Austrian billionaire only one car finished, Daniel Ricciardo salvaging eighth on the very last lap whilst Nico Rosberg led home at Mercedes 1-2.

Christian Horner was in no doubt as to where the blame lay, the Red Bull team boss describing both the reliability and performance of the Renault power units as "unacceptable".

"There needs to be change," he demanded of the French manufacturer. "It can't continue like this. It's not good for Renault and it's not good for Red Bull."

Dietrich, on the other hand, isn't quite as forgiving.
