Petrov handed grid penalty for India

Vitaly Petrov has been handed a five-place grid penalty following the incident during today's Korean Grand Prix.

The Lotus Renault GP was involved in a battle with Fernando Alonso on the 15th lap of the race when he carried far too much speed into Turn 3 at the end of the DRS zone. He collided with Michael Schumacher, causing damage to the German's Mercedes which eliminated him on the spot, and was lucky not to collect Alonso also.

Having viewed video evidence of the incident and spoken to those involved, including representatives from the Renault team, the stewards, who include former F1 driver Martin Donnelly, adjudged Petrov as having caused a collision, a breech of Article 16.1 of the 2011 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.

The Russian was given a five-place penalty for the forthcoming Indian Grand Prix and an official reprimand.

In a separate incident, HRT were fined 5,000 euros for the unsafe release of Daniel Ricciardo following his first pit stop.
