Mosley rubbishes three-car proposal

NEWS STORY
12/09/2009

Max Mosley has ruled out the idea of teams entering three cars in 2010, describing the proposal as a "fantasy"

While the idea has been mooted in the past, this was when it appeared that teams and manufacturers were on the verge of leaving the sport, leaving the promoters unable to meet their contractual obligation of providing a minimum of twenty cars.

However, even with a proposed grid of twelve teams next season, Ferrari has been calling for teams to be allowed to field three cars with Luca di Montezemolo raising the issue at the meeting of the teams' alliance (FOTA) on Thursday in Monza.

Speaking to reporters today however, Mosley poured cold water on the idea, claiming that it is too late to introduce such a rule for 2010.

"Three cars would mean re-writing the Concorde Agreement, and the time to think about three cars was before we all signed that, not after," he said. "Three cars is a nice story but it's a little bit of fantasy and difficult to get unanimous agreement on."

Initially it was claimed that several teams were interested in the idea but of late only Ferrari appears to be really pushing the proposal.
