Hamilton joins GPDA

NEWS STORY
30/03/2009

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he has finally joined the F1 drivers' 'trade union', the Grand Prix Drivers' Association.

The 2008 World Champion announced the move over the course of the Australian GP weekend, telling reporters: "I had been thinking about it for some time, but I'm not the type of person to be pushed into something I don't want to do.

"I sat down, had a good chat with Pedro (GPDA chairman, Pedro de la Rosa) and said yes because it is something where perhaps I can contribute."

While on some issues the GPDA remains mystifyingly silent, on others it is quite vocal, a good example being the outcry when the FIA announced that it was to increase the cost of superlicences, the 'driving licence' a racer needs before he can contest a Formula One race.

After much murmuring, including talk of a strike, the FIA eventually announced that it will revise the planned price hike for superlicence fees in 2010.
