Heinz Harald Frentzen clocked the fastest qualifying time this evening at the Losail International Circuit claiming pole position on the starting grid for Speedcar Series’ first night race at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.

Jacques Villeneuve had his best result yet finishing in second spot behind Frentzen slower by just over a tenth of a second.

Jean Alesi was near the front for most of the 30-minute qualifying session. A spin out sent the Frenchman into the gravel pit, so he could not respond to Frentzen’s time of 2:03.967, lagging by just a 0.460.

Marco Melandri has turned out to be the wild card of the weekend thus far. The Italian biker, who has raced in MotoGP at Losail before, spun three times but still managed to finish with the fourth fastest time, a position better than at yesterday’s practice session.

Vitantonio Liuzzi who made the fastest practice time yesterday suffered gearbox trouble that left him in 7th place on the grid.
