The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) will host Speedcar Series' first night race at the Losail International Circuit on 12-14 February, 2009. The agreement, signed between the two parties, covers the Grand Racing weekend event which will feature Speedcar Series and GP2 Asia Series, both of whom will be racing at night for the first time.

QMMF President Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Attiyah said, "I am happy to include the event in our calendar and to give entertainment to the fans. It will offer motor sport lovers in Qatar the chance to see some stars at the event as Speedcar Series features well known Formula One racers."

Speedcar Series opened its season in Dubai in December and conducted its second round in Bahrain. Formula One drivers currently list the top five names in the Drivers' Championship standings. Johnny Herbert and Heinz Harald Frentzen are tied with 21 points in the top spot although the Briton has the upper hand with one win. They are followed by Gianni Morbidelli, Jean Alesi and Vitantonio Liuzzi.

The Team Championship standings are equally close with JMB consisting of drivers Johnny Herbert and Damien Pasini as well as Palm Beach spearheaded by Gianni Morbidelli, Thomas Biagi and Stefan Johansson, level with 28 points each.

Claudio Berro, Operations Director of Speedcar Series commented, "We have been in talks with Qatar for the last two months and we are happy the project will go ahead thanks to the passion and cooperation of the QMMF President Mr. Al Attiyah. The agreement we have reached will also guarantee the platform for our partner GP2 Asia Series to race in Qatar as a key part of our Grand Racing weekend."

"I am sure that both Speedcar Series and GP2 Asia will provide a memorable show to the race fans of Qatar, boosting the growth of motor sport in the region" Berro added.

Johnny Herbert currently leading the Driver Championship standings and defending his Season 1 Champion title said, "Featuring in a night race will be fantastic and I expect the competition to be of the highest standard for all of us and for the fans alike."

The race scheduled at Losail International Circuit will be the third round of 2008-2009 Speedcar Series Season.
