Massa escapes punishment and keeps victory

NEWS STORY
24/08/2008

In a move which is unlikely to go down well with many, Felipe Massa has not been punished following the pitlane incident during today's European Grand Prix.

After the Brazilian was released unsafely following his second pit-stop, causing him to almost collide with Force India's Adrian Sutil, Race Stewards announced that they would investigate the incident.

A few laps later, when many were expecting the Ferrari driver to serve a drive-through penalty, the stewards announced that they would make their decision after the race.

Sure enough, shortly after the end of the race, having viewed video evidence and spoken to the driver and representatives of Ferrari, it was decided that the Brazilian had not gained any advantage from the incident, though he had breached Article 23.1 (i) of the 2008 Formula One Sporting Regulations, consequently he was fined 10,000 euros and officially reprimanded, but kept the win.

Thing is, if he didn't benefit, why the reprimand and the fine?
