Sauber tells Raikkonen to get technical

Peter Sauber, the man who brought Kimi Raikkonen into F1 - a move which caused outrage at the time since the Finn had very little single-seater experience, and led to Max Mosley issuing the youngster a temporary Superlicence - has advised his protege to get technical.

Sauber, who sold his team to BMW in 2005, believes the 27-year-old would benefit by looking at the technical side of the business.

"He is unbelievably fast, focused and powerful," the Swiss told Germany's Auto Bild. "But it would be interesting to see how good he could be if he concerned himself with the technology side, too.

"His strengths are definitely not on the technical side," he continued, though he admitted that he "would not call his lack of technical interest a weakness".

Despite initial speculation as to how the Finn would fit in at Ferrari, especially how he would fill the void left by Michael Schumacher, he appears to have settled in well. Winning his first race for the Maranello outfit was the dream start, however in Bahrain, and to a lesser extent Malaysia, he appeared to have lost some of his 'sparkle'.

While some speculate that there is a certain unease regarding the relationship between (teammate) Felipe Massa and (team boss) Jean Todt, due to the fact that the Brazilian is managed by Nicholas Todt, others claim that Bahrain was just a minor blip, pointing to the fact that the Finn is joint leader of the World Championship.

Sauber's comments reinforce Pitpass' opinion that Kimi might be best served by swallowing a little pride and making full use of the valuable advice his predecessor might be able to offer. The advice of a seven-time champion might well enable the Finn to secure his first title.

Amongst other things, Schumacher, would also almost certainly urge Kimi to follow Sauber's advice, and learn the technical side of the business.
