Spyker turns to Ebay

NEWS STORY
10/04/2007

Despite having signed a number of sponsors, Spyker is looking for more, and exploring every possible avenue.

In the latest move, the Dutch team has turned to the company which in the past has been used to sell everything from a jet fighter to a human kidney, Britney Spear's used chewing gum ($263) to a sandwich on which the Virgin Mary supposedly 'appeared, and which sold for $28,000.

Yes folks, Spyker has turned to Ebay, the online auction site.

The Dutch team is selling four 'spots' on the car, with starting prices ranging from 500,000 to 3m euros.

Though the auctions - there are four of them - went live last Friday, there are currently no bids.

"Spyker Formula One is a challenger brand with global potential," said Bas Verhart, CEO of Media Republic, the company that came up with the idea. "We believe there are many people out there who'd like to be involved 'from the beginning' of this long-haul success story. Of course we're expecting some corporate interest, but we also think that this is a unique opportunity for all those eccentrics and philanthropists out there, who want to propose marriage in-style, support their chosen charity or highlight just causes."

Verhart stopped short of saying that should Plan A (Ebay) fail, he would resort to following Simon Fuller's Plan B (painting the two Dutch cars with a map of the Earth...)
