BAR to continue talks with FIA over 'device'

NEWS STORY
26/07/2004

Team principal David Richards, says that BAR-Honda are to continue discussions with the FIA following the banning of what they called 'an electro hydraulic software controlled device which connects the front wheels via drive shafts and allows controlled torque transfer from a faster wheel to a slower wheel even under braking.'

The device was found on the BAR team's T-car at the German Grand Prix and the stewards of the meeting deemed that 'this device is not to be used'.

According to observers, it was as though the car had a front axle with a small differential which allowed the torque transfer, particularly through slower corners. The drivers had given their thumbs up to the device and clearly liked its results.

But the FIA says it is against article 11.1.3 of the technical regulations. BAR haven't appealed; Richards says that discussions are continuing.
