GP2: Organizers announce calendar and entry list

NEWS STORY
14/12/2006

Following the deadline for entries and last week's meeting of the FIA World Council, the GP2 series has unveiled its 2007 calendar and reveals that the 13 teams which formed the grid in 2006 have been confirmed for the 2007 season. Race numbering is allocated by championship position from the official final standings of 2006, as per the GP2 series sporting regulations.

There will be few major changes to the 2007 line-up. As previously announced, vice-champions Piquet Sports have formed an alliance with F1 legends Minardi to become 'Minardi Piquet Sports', while the series also welcomes British F3 greats Carlin Motorsport to the series as they form an alliance with DPR to become 'Carlin DPR'. Finally, Campos Racing will become known as 'Campos Grand Prix' next year.

The 13 teams will embark on a global challenge in 2007 as the GP2 series starts its season in Bahrain, scene of a thrilling title showdown in 2005. This event will be the first of ten weekends as the official Formula One support series.

From there the series returns to Europe and follows the F1 circus until it departs across the Atlantic in June, at which point there will be the traditional mid-season test.

The racing picks up again in France and the series will stay with Formula One until the penultimate race in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps makes a welcome return to the calendar.

The 2007 championship will be concluded with the one stand-alone event of the season in Valencia at the end of September, the scene of the highly successful opening round in 2006.
