Verstappen would have won in Singapore with a Ferrari

Isack Hadjar claims that teammate Max Verstappen would have won the Singapore Grand Prix had he been at the wheel of a Ferrari.

Marina Bay saw the Dutchman score his second successive victory, leading some to say that the Red Bull package is now the best on the grid.

However, Hadjar insists the Ferrari was faster and that his teammate would have made better use of it, winning the race by a bigger margin than the 7.3s advantage he had over Charles Leclerc at the flag.

Asked if he agrees with the claims that the Red Bull is the car to beat, the Frenchman replied: "No, because I think the car is still very hard to drive.

"In Malaysia, it was dominant," he added, "but I don't think in Singapore it was the fastest car.

"That's what I believe," he continued. "I think if you put Max in the Ferrari, he would have won the race with more margin. That's my opinion.

"He qualified on pole by half a tenth," he said of his teammate. "Ferrari didn't have new tyres in the race, not on the soft, so this has an effect as well. He put all the chances on his side, he made the difference in Q3 and that was enough."

Oscar Piastri disagrees.

"I think Red Bull definitely took a pretty big step forwards over the last triple-header," said the Australian. "Whatever upgrades they put on the car in Baku were very strong. They had a double podium there and won the next two races.

"Clearly the Red Bull was very strong, both stronger than us, for sure," he added. "Over the last few weeks, Red Bull's definitely become, I would say, the most consistently quick car. But I think each weekend, the challenges are kind of rotating."

Back-to-back wins for his McLaren teammate in Hungary and the Netherlands led to many believing that the Woking team was the pace-setter.

"In the middle of the season we felt like we'd gained some momentum, and potentially we were back to being able to fight for wins and regular podiums," he agreed. "But that's often the way in Formula 1. You think you're there again, and you've got a few teams around you to pull you down a few pegs."
