"A s**t idea", declares Vettel

NEWS STORY
04/04/2016

Once again, an entertaining Grand Prix has taken the (mainstream) media's attention away from the ongoing debacle that is qualifying.

Difficult to manage, but Saturday's session was even worse than Melbourne, with teams and drivers now accepting they are to be eliminated and adopting a 'so why bother' attitude to running.

Then came the news that the FIA has not only ruled out a return to the old 2015 format but is proposing a system whereby a driver's two best times would be taken and the aggregate would represent his final time, this to happen in all three phases of the session.

Exciting, huh?

Sebastian Vettel basically summed up the mood of the people when asked his thoughts.

"It's time to go to the circus," he Sky Sports F1. "It's a good idea if you want random things to happen, but F1 should be about racing. It's a s*** idea."

And so say all of us.

"The drivers should just go on strike and refuse to go out and qualify.
This would correct 2 things.
1 Sort out a proper qualifying structure.
2 Prove to the 'powers that be' that they are not toothless puppets.
Not going to happen though."

"Inspite exciting driver lineup as F1 has today, it is ruined by rules and regulations, for drivers as well as for us.

Suits want a show? Let`s decide grid position by lottery, maybe even who races which car, and tire choice drawn from the hat? Q1 tires from the hat, Q2 who drives what lottery, Q3 grid position fortune wheel? I mean, if it is for the show...

(I strongly considered deleting this, they may see and act accordingly)"

"KUDOS to Vettel for speaking what's on his mind. What about the other drivers trying the same. With all the issues plaguing F1 why modify qualifying, one of the parts that worked well(until 2016). Obviously F1 doesn't "discriminate on the basis of ability". Hense JEAN TODT!"

"Why have three sessions then, if only two times will count? This proposed system couldn't possibly be even worse or more confusing??? The problem here is, no one is willing to put up their hand, and admit this qualifying has been an absolute effing joke. "Oh, we can't possibly confess to making a huge mistake, lets make the situation even more ridiculous". How can we (the fans) bring legal action against the FIA for bringing the sport into disrepute? "

"Love that Vettel is willing to say what's on his mind. Wouldn't it be great if all the drivers followed suit? Maybe they could exact even the smallest amount of change."

"Well said Mr Vettel, spot on. Don't forget that a camel is a horse designed by a committee........

Mr Todt is presiding over a long-running farce. Is Mr Ecclestone deliberately trying to make him look stupid in order that he might be voted out, or are they both in it together trying to drive down the value of the F1 brand for nefarious purposes?"
