Celis to kick-start Force India's test programme

NEWS STORY
18/02/2016

Development driver Alfonso Celis will get force India's test programme underway at Barcelona on Monday.

The Mexican, who was revealed as the team's development driver in November, will be in action on two of the four days, getting things underway on Monday and signing off on Thursday.

Sergio Perez will take over the VJM09 on Tuesday before handing over to Nico Hulkenberg who will drive the car on Wednesday.

Looking to maintain, if not improve on 2015, arguably the Silverstone-based outfit's best season, it seems somewhat odd to give the new car over to the development driver for two days, when the entire pre-season programme allows for just eight.

In 2015, Celis contested both GP3 and the Formula Renault 3.5 series, albeit with little success.

"In all seriousness, why would a team kneecap itself by using a rookie to kick off their first test?"
