Sainz declared fit to race

NEWS STORY
11/10/2015

Carlos Sainz has been given the green light to participate in today's Russian Grand Prix.

A brief statement issued just over two hours before the race is due to start, read:

"Following this morning's FIA note to the Media in which Carlos Sainz was declared fit to race, Scuderia Toro Rosso is happy to confirm that Carlos will take part in today's 2015 Russian Grand Prix here in Sochi."

The news comes less than twenty-four hours after the sport held its breath following his high-speed crash during FP3 in Sochi.

The sense of dread as he was extracted from his car, the situation not helped by the lack of TV replays or radio comms, finally ended in relief on seeing the youngster give the thumbs up as he was stretchered into a waiting ambulance.

Shortly after, the first selfies began appearing, the Spaniard insisting that he was determined to take part in today's event.

The youngster will start from the back of the grid alongside countrymen Roberto Merhi and Fernando Alonso.
